This August, Alex Foley took on her biggest DJ marathon yet – a 60-hour livestream to celebrate her mum’s 60th birthday while raising funds for The Cinnamon Trust.

Alex is a nurse by day and DJ by night and has raised more than £9,000 through a series of marathon charity sets. Recently, alongside more than 15 other DJs, she embarked upon her biggest challenge yet in support of our work. Alex is autistic, so the 60-hour set required not only incredible endurance but also careful management of energy and sensory input throughout the weekend.

As a family of devoted animal lovers, with a dog and five rescue cats, Alex and her mum understand just how special the bond between people and their pets can be. When they learned about The Cinnamon Trust, they knew it was a cause close to their hearts and the perfect cause to get behind.

The weekend marked Alex’s mum’s very special birthday. Alex told us why this event was particularly important:

“My mum does so much for other people. This is my way of doing something for her.”

Throughout the weekend, Alex and her fellow DJ friends pulled out all the stops, playing a brilliant variety of music – with everything from Afro House to ABBA classics (her mum’s favourite!). Plus, she was surprised with a special video message from one of her favourite music producers, Armin van Buuren, showing her his admiration and support.

She shared:

“It was such a special weekend! We’re so proud of what we accomplished. I hope it helps many more people and pets that need it!”

Alex raised a whopping £2020 for The Cinnamon Trust which will directly help older people and those facing terminal illness keep their cherished pets by their side.
