    Be a Big Walk Champion

Host a Big Walk! Be the warm and welcoming leader of your local walk. Host a Big Walk! Be the warm and welcoming leader of your local walk. Simply follow the Big Walk Champion process below and we will help you make it happen. Can we suggest a local beauty spot or park so that those attending can be treated to the best your town/city has to offer? Refreshments wouldn’t go amiss either – do you have a local café you can call?

Attend a Big Walk near you

Our Big Walks wouldn’t be the same without the marvellous array of friendly faces who participate. We want as many people as possible to come along: bring dogs, bring friends, bring family and share in the great feeling of making a difference.

    Support in your own way

For those who want to participate in a different way, we encourage you to do so! Whether you do the Big Walk solo, in a small private group, or from your sofa: celebrate with us by sharing social media posts, cheering others on and engaging with the Big Walk community.

It's easy to host your own big walk

Be a Big Walk Champion

You may think that being a Big Walk Champion is challenging, but our events team are on hand to make it as easy as possible for you. We will support you through the whole process, all we need from you is to:
  1. Choose your walk’s location – Think about accessibility, inclusivity, toilets, parking, and space.
  2. Establish a start time and meeting point – As it will be May when the walks take place, we suggest avoiding the hotter hours of the day.
  3. Liaise with your local park authority/town council to receive permissions (if required) for a group walk in your chosen location – We can help with this!
  4. Plan a rough route for your walk to follow – Keep it fun, not a challenge
  5. Receive delivery of and hand out goody bags to attendees – Spread the kindness of our event sponsors: Natures Menu.
  6. Be happy to meet and welcome attendees – We will supply a high-vis so you are easy to see!
  7. Lead your walk around your route on 4th May – Have fun, share your photos and make us proud!

Want to attend but don't want to host?

Attend a Big Walk

Once a Big Walk location has been established, we will plot it on our events map. If you see a Big Walk on the map that you would like to be a part of, register yourself (and anyone who will be joining you) to attend and reserve your goody bag!

As an attendee, all you need to do is come along and join in the fun. We encourage you to bring a dog (or dogs) with you if you can. Be it your own, one that you support, or one that you have borrowed. Alternatively, come and get your doggy fix from the attending dogs from your community!

We had over 40 walks last year, so keep an eye out for new locations on the map as new Big Walk Champions come forward. Walks will be kept up-to-date with key information including: location, start time, meeting location and approximate length of route.

Everyone can be a part of The Big Walk

Do your own sponsored walk, event, or cheer from home!

Everyone can take part! We understand that a group walk may not suit everyone or every dog, so if you prefer to participate alone or in a small private group, we would be delighted for you to do so!

Any walk, regardless of the size, can help to recruit a new volunteer or spark a meaningful conversation with someone who may need our support. Might choose to gather sponsorship for your walk, raising vital funds for the Trust. If so, please find our sponsorship form below:

Every penny makes a difference.
Bake sales, charity stalls, coffee mornings...

While the majority of attendees participate in a walk, others use The Big Walk as an opportunity to run table-top sales, coffee mornigs or refreshment stalls to fundraise in their community. And we love it! We want our annual event to be inclusive, celebratory and a joy to be a part of. Some of our members are not in a position to come along to a Big Walk but their companions can, and we find great pleasure in finding a dog walking volunteer to bring them along. If this is you, please let us know!

You can even support us from your sofa!

Some people underestimate the power of spreading the word – we don’t! Please share our social media posts, comment and engage with other supporters who are participating in The Big Walk and show us how you are celebrating from your home!

Loretta, in Epping, tells us about her very different Big Walk

Being an absolutely mad animal lover, I was astounded that I had never heard of The Trust when I came across their work. Now I do what I can to fundraise and took part in the Big Walks.

My Big Walk consisted of Beau, our Labrador, his feline sister Dotty and Uncle Albert the tortoise, who was celebrating his 126th birthday! Our walk was a gentle one, mainly consisting of sniffs. My family - those with two legs or four, with fur or with shell - are my world. I would be lost without them. Thus, I fully understand the importance of The Trust.

Thanks to this years sponsor

Natures Menu

This year, we’re overjoyed to welcome Natures Menu as our official Big Walk Sponsor, helping us make sure that there is a little bag of joy for all of our Big Walk attendees! Natures Menu’s mission is to bring the most natural, nutritious and unprocessed food for our pets, in the easiest way possible for pet owners.

Finding a partner who shares our heartfelt commitment to pets and their well-being feels truly special and we couldn’t be more thrilled to walk this journey together!

If just one person is helped or a volunteer is recruited as a result of the big walk, our event will have been a great success.

Whether you are championing your own Big Walk in a local beauty spot, joining a group Big Walk, or take on a solo sponsored walk, we are so thankful for your involvement. Your participation means the world to us and makes our event that bit more special!

So, what are you waiting for? Come and join the fun!
