Timmy was the most wonderful dog I could have asked for. I had recently lost my husband and my beloved last greyhound and was in desperate need of a dog for companionship. I had always loved the greyhound breed and hoped that I could offer a home to a dog in need. A friend heard about Timmy who was staying with a temporary foster family as his owner was in hospital. After a while it became clear that Timmy would need a permanent home. I feel it was the right time for both of us.

Timmy travelled the 46 miles from St. Alban to visit my home with the understanding that if things didn’t work out, he would return to the foster family. But the moment I saw him, I knew. It was love at first sight. Timmy had found his home and from that first day it was as if he had always belonged to me. He took himself off to the garden to mark his spot and returned to me with his tail wagging and ears up. His wonderful ears never went down!

Timmy brought happiness back to my life when I needed it the most. If I had tried to order the perfect dog – Timmy would have been it. He was everything I could have wished for. He loved me and I loved him.

Timmy had four Cinnamon Volunteers who helped with his walks, and he was loved by every one of them. One of his volunteers was so taken with Timmy that they went on to adopt a greyhound of their own from a local rescue.

Sadly, Timmy was diagnosed with bone cancer, and I knew that our precious time together would be coming to an end. He reached his 10th birthday and I held a little party for him which his volunteers came to. It was a happy day and a memory I will treasure.

Three months later, it was time to say goodbye. The vet came to my home, and I was able to tell Timmy how much I loved him. It was the hardest thing I have had to do, but I knew I needed to be with him as he had been there for me. I have his casket here and it says, ‘Always Remembered’. And he always will be.
